Different Types of Therapist.
Before you can decide on the best therapist for you, it is helpful
to be aware of the different ‘schools of thought and practice’
relating to the training and practice of hypnotherapists.
This is particularly important in an industry, which is still
largely unregulated.
Currently ‘anyone’ can set up as a hypnotherapist,
and there are an array of different training schools and professional
associations to choose from when considering hypnotherapy as a career.
Broadly speaking there are three different approaches evident
in the history of hypnosis and hypnotherapy.
1. The ‘authoritarian’ approach
2. The ‘standardised’ approach
3. The ‘utilitarian’ (or Eriksonian) approach
These are different styles with an emphasis on ‘different
aspects of the relationship between hypnotist and subject.’
