Training and Education

Welcome to 'Mind-Train'

Time to 'change your mind'
about training.

'Mind Train' offer bespoke inservice training for teachers.

These are high quality Training Courses
delivered by a real teacher,
who has worked with real pupils, who had real issues
which these techniques and approaches really helped!

'Teacher's TV'
have filmed my innovative work using
'N.L.P.' (neuro-linguistic-programming)
to help young people in schools
with 'anger management' and 'low-self esteem.'

The programme
'CareerWise'
broadcast on March 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2006,
describes the successes that we have had
at 'John Cabot City Technology College'
using this 'non-trance' form of intervention.

The focus of the T.V. programme was our exclusive training course
for teachers, entitled:

1.

'N.L.P. and Anger Management.'

This unique course offers practical solutions
to help students overcome their personal fury
and reduce conflict and direct antagonism,
towards their teachers, parents and peers.

The techniques demonstrated on the course,
have been tried and tested over recent years,
in a real school context, (11 to 18 yr. olds)
with extremely positive results.

At 'Mind-Train'
we take a highly pragmatic approach to training,
so you can rest assured that this course
will not be a jargon-filled, theory lesson!

I am very proud to say that these methods
have genuinely helped a wide variety of teenagers
to manage the emotions of adolescent resentment.

The pupils themselves,
(who provide first-hand video evidence and testimony for the course)
are our strongest advocates.

They confidently assert that they have
regained control over their 'mind-states' -
managing their responses with increased calmness and composure,
even when provoked by external events and circumstances.

Additionally, there is much tangible evidence
that our students have benefitted from these same techniques
when addressing stress, anxiety and low self-esteem issues.

This training course is, therefore, primarily targetted at teachers
and adults who work with pupils on a 'one-to-one' basis,
such as 'Pastoral' or 'Welfare' staff, Heads of Year,
LSAs, SENCOS and Learning Mentors.

This is an opportunity for teachers, educators and carers,
to equip themselves with some fascinating
and powerful 'brain-based' techniques,
from the vast canon of N.L.P.

The course will provide you with practical interventions
that you can then offer the young people in your care,
as a tangible avenue of hope
that change and the better management of their potent emotions
is possible and achievable.

Thank you for your interest in the 'Teacher's TV' feature
and in our web site.

A second, popular training course is:

2.

'An Introduction to N.L.P. in Education.'

With the current interest in 'brain-based learning,' this course offers teachers an ideal and practical way-in to the often over-complex and elaborate world of 'neuro-linguistic programming.'

Our training programme highlights only those aspects of N.L.P. that are directly relevant to contemporary classroom practice.

Most N.L.P. ideas were born from, and have the greatest relevance to, the world of the 'curative therapist'.

It is crucial, therefore, for teachers to carefully select only those N.L.P. methods that are particulaly valuable in an educational context.

'N.L.P. Practitioner Courses' and 'Master Practitioner Courses' are notoriously expensive, often running to £1,000 - £2,000 plus per candidate. Most take many days (or weekends) to complete ...

... so we at 'Mind-Train' have carefully selected the content of our N.L.P. courses, to provide only material that is directly useful to teachers working in schools.

Paul can offer, lively, practical, and informative 'in-house' training courses, at your school, for:

£500 (no VAT) - per half day

£900 (no VAT) - per whole day.

3.

'The Teacher as Performer'

'Teaching as the Art of Motivational Communication'

This course ran for 15 years, with great success
at 'John Cabot City Technology College,'
and was traditionally targetted at
N.Q.T.'s
and teachers new to the profession.

Through dynamic and practical workshop-style approaches,
this course examines the 'artistry of teaching'
- the 'craft of good communication' -
and in recent years has included some newer dimensions
from the contemporary appreciation now given
to 'brain-based' learning.

4.

'1001 Activities for Kinaesthetic Learners'
'Managing the Organic Classroom and Curriculum'

With the increasing new emphasis on
'learning styles
'
and 'multiple intelligences'
there is a clear need for teachers to expand their repertoire of skills,
in order to provide a 'multi-sensory' approach to teaching.

Many colleagues in the teaching profession
struggle to know how best to apply
'tactile and kinaesthetic' approaches
.

Colleagues can be 'afraid of taking a gamble'
and of 'restructuring their safe, formal classroom arrangements.'

They are reluctant to drop
the 'predominantly auditory style of delivery
that has been the hallmark of traditional schooling, for decades.
'

Not only does this fun-filled course
(- which utilises practical demonstrations involving pupils
from the host school - )
- offer an array of proven kinaesthetic methodologies,

- it also explores how 'any learning topic'
can be converted into a 'tactile or kinaesthetic modus operandi'
- thus releasing teachers to design new and exciting
variations on their delivery
releasing them to
'boldly go' where they have never gone before.

'Sec Ed' Magazine
for teachers.

Typed below is a copy of the standard letter of information
about these 'Mind-Focus' Workshops
which 'R.T.A.' send out to schools.

‘Mind Focus’

‘Brain-Based’ Preparation for Revision and Exams.

Improve Students’ Capacity
To Revise, Retain and Recall Information.

Dear Headteacher,

We wish to offer schools a successful:

'Study Skills Relaxation Workshop'

This unique event, which includes a lively ‘Launch Assembly’ to motivate, stimulate and entertain pupils, was comprehensively tried and tested at ‘John Cabot CTC’ in Bristol, by their Deputy Principal, who conceived and devised the programme.

Press, T.V. and radio articles about previous ‘Mind Focus’ workshops
can be viewed at:

www.cabot.ac.uk

- Click the window entitled:
 'Press and PR'
(on the right hand side)

then select either:
'Television'
'Radio
'
or 'Articles'
(on the left hand index)

and go to those items marked:

‘All Psyched Up’.

After a ‘Brain Gym’ style Assembly,
Paul will work in 30 minute sessions,
with small groups - (12 pupils) - specially selected by you -
who may be experiencing difficulties preparing for their SATs.
(Or GCSEs or A Levels.)

Through guided, creative visualisation, in a relaxed setting,
using ‘neuro-linguistic programming’ (NLP)
and proven ‘Sports Psychology’ motivation techniques,
your pupils will be psychologically primed
for their revision and examination schedules.

Benefits.

1. Students expect to study because their mind anticipates this will happen. Heightened expectation maximises motivation
and the purposeful use of revision time.

2. The workshop takes the onus for finding
the initial motivation to revise,
off the student's shoulders.
Thus, the instigation of self-study and revision can be initiated,
much earlier.

3. Mind-techniques encourage the increased retention of information.
Positive suggestion promotes ‘an ease of learning’
and a relaxed revision style.

4. Creative visualisation allows pupils to glimpse the future
and appreciate the long-term value of examinations
and eventual qualifications.
The brain gains a purposeful rationale for the current period of study.

5. N.L.P. techniques remind the children
how easy learning has been in the past.
Pupils vividly recollect how previous learning has been assimilated
and is now second nature - automatic.
This boosts personal confidence and self-belief.

6. This further reinforces that current difficulties
will eventually be resolved
and this leads to increased self-reliance,
negating the anxiety often associated with pre-examination pressures.

7. The programme is highly personalised,
and thus pupils feel valued and individually empowered.

8. Pupils are taught to attain
a calm and relaxed state of mind when studying,
which improves both retention and examination performance.

9. All teenagers are under pressure from many influences,
as well as exams.
They frequently talk about ‘being stressed out’
and anxiety is a real issue for pastoral staff.

This programme provides them with techniques
and psychological support mechanisms,
that will enhance their self-control
and their ability to manage their own feelings and stress levels.

Paul Monaghan
was Deputy Principal ‘Training, Development and Learning’
at John Cabot City Technology College.

He is now a Vice-Principal and Director of Learning
at the RSA Academy, Tipton, West Midlands.

He is also a fully qualified and experienced
Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist.

Please note: These techniques do not involve hypnosis,
but use non-trance, ‘mind focus’ approaches
that capitalise on the way the brain naturally learns.

‘The sessions work
by creating meaningful internal ‘links’ and ‘associated images’
which establish strong connections
between the right and left hemispheres of the brain.’

The workshops require a relaxing environment,
with comfortable seating and soft lighting, if possible.

during a 'guided visualisation and relaxation' workshop.
